We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer and we do not target the EU; no EU representative has been appointed.

2. What data we collect

We collect only what we need to run the site and publish a public improv calendar:

  • Contact enquiries: name, email, message.
  • Newsletter sign-ups: email address (and any preferences you choose to give).
  • Event submissions for the public calendar: information you submit for publication (e.g. event title, description, dates/times, venue/location, organiser name and public contact details, images).

Please don’t include special-category data (e.g. health information) in event listings.

We do not run analytics or tracking beyond strictly necessary technical logging to operate and secure the site.

3. How we use your data (lawful bases)

  • Publish event listings on the public calendarlegitimate interests (running and promoting a public directory of improv events in the UK).
  • Respond to enquirieslegitimate interests (running our organisation and replying to messages you send us).
  • Email marketing/newslettersconsent (you opt in on the site; no soft opt-in). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in our emails or by contacting us.
  • Site operation and security (e.g. server logs, fraud/abuse prevention) – legitimate interests.

4. Cookies & similar tech

We currently use only essential cookies that are necessary for the site to work. If we ever add non-essential cookies (e.g. for analytics or advertising), we will ask for your consent first and let you manage your choices at any time via our cookie banner. We do not embed third-party content such as YouTube, social widgets or ad tags.

5. Who we share data with (categories of recipients)

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site, under contracts that protect your data. These include:

  • Website hosting and platform providers (to operate the website, forms and public calendar).
  • Email service providers (to send and receive emails).
  • Consent/cookie management providers (to display and record your cookie choices).

We may also share information with professional advisers, law enforcement or regulators where required by law or to protect our rights.

6. International transfers

Some service providers may process data outside the UK/EEA. Where that happens, we rely on lawful safeguards (such as UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement/Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect your information.

7. How long we keep your data

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes above, then delete or anonymise it. As a guide:

  • Event submissions: published until the event date has passed; we may delete the listing at any time after the event date has passed. Back-ups may retain copies for a short period.
  • Enquiry emails: up to 12 months after we close your enquiry.
  • Newsletter list: until you unsubscribe or after 24 months of inactivity.
  • Security/server logs: up to 12 months.

If you ask us to delete data sooner, we will do so where the law allows.

8. Your rights

You have rights under UK data protection law, including to:

  • access your data;
  • correct inaccurate data;
  • delete your data;
  • restrict or object to our processing (you can always object to marketing);
  • withdraw consent (for emails) at any time; and
  • data portability (where applicable).

9. Children

Our site and services are aimed at adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children and we do not target under-18s.

10. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to prevent unauthorised access, use, alteration or disclosure.

11. Complaints

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll post the latest version on this page and change the “Effective date” above.
